Fallin’ For Fall
It’s time for my favorite time of year! I love the Fall! I love watching the leaves change color and doing all the fun things like apple orchards and pumpkin picking with the girls. But most importantly, I love dressing up in layers. Fall outfits are so easy to put together with just a few basic tricks.
When I moved to the U.S. I remember being so surprised by the drastic changes in weather. How can one place go from hot and sunny to so cold that snow falls from the sky?? I still don’t know! But I used to get so excited for the Fall because it reminded me of my hometown. I had a hard time switching my closet from summer to fall to winter, though. I learned how to repurpose my pieces to work for any season.
When I’m imagining my fall outfits, I keep a few things in mind: layering, fall colors, and shoe selection.
Layering Summer Pieces
This is super important if you don’t have “new season, new closet” money – I know I don’t. You can take summer pieces like these green pants I bought in July and this basic printed tee and turn them into fall fashion just by adding a jean jacket for layering. Some of my other favorite layering pieces are leather jackets, cardigans, and light overcoats. Layering is also important because the weather changes throughout the day during the fall. You might leave the house in the morning and it feels almost like winter but then the sun comes out in the afternoon and you’re back in summertime.
Play with Fall Colors
Summer isn’t the only time for colors! In fact, if you’re like me and you like warm tones, fall colors are perfect. Oranges like burnt orange, yellows like mustard yellow, and greens like the pear green in these pants are fun to find and mix. You don’t have to play it safe with neutrals alone but finding some neutrals like the nude shoes I have on in this outfit is key to balancing your fall closet.
Shoe Stylin’
Shoes can be one of the most fun parts of any outfit. The fall gives us so many options between flats, heels, knee-high boots, ankle boots, booties, and so many more. I like the fact that one outfit can be paired with multiple shoes, which makes transitioning from one event to another that much easier. When I was in NY with this outfit, these nude heels were cute to strut around in until they weren’t comfy anymore. I quickly switched into a pair of flats…and that’s the same energy I’m keeping the rest of this Fall season!
Switchin’ Seasons
I love that a lot of my fall pieces can also follow me into the winter – just add a coat and boots. Don’t be scared to add to your closet, but it’s important to see if you can repurpose the pieces that are already in it. If you have a tank top you like wearing in the summer, take it out, add a jacket, and throw a scarf around your neck. Boom! Fall outfit. It’s that easy! The only downfall about the fall is that it really only lasts like two weeks lol. But it’s okay, we’ll just enjoy it while it lasts.
